Il cane fotografato da solo sull’isolotto durante l’incendio in Grecia, ha ritrovato la sua famiglia

Pictures of the dog, lying on the rock in the sea off the resort of Mati, in eastern Greece's Attica region, went viral after they were shared on social media. She became a symbol of the tragedy which hit the resort which was almost burnt to the ground in the fire, killing at least 82 people and injuring more than 170. Animal lovers and rescue organisations were moved to try to find the dog's owners and one has now revealed that those efforts have proved successful. The StreetDogs in Volos-Greece group, which looks after stray dogs, confirmed that the dog was called Lua and that she was safely back with her owners. A spokesman said: "She has been found by her people! Her name is Lua! They didnít let her die. They adore her! They didnít know what to do in the chaos." A friend of the family has told local media that Lua ran off after becoming frightened during the fire and wriggled out of her collar and lead. The dog had the intelligence to run towards the sea where she swam out to her rock to see out the fire from a safe distance. That was where she was spotted by the photographer who took the image which made her famous all around the world. Luaís owners had been looking her for hours, before learning from social media that she had survived the fire lying on the rock at Kokkino Limanaki beach. They were reunited with their pet and together they boarded a boat which was evacuating people left stranded by the wildfire to the nearby port of Rafina. The family has since returned to their home in the Greek capital city of Athens. Lua was originally a stray dog but was taken in by the family who have a summer house in Mati.

Sono passati solo quattro giorni da quando abbiamo pubblicato la foto simbolo degli incendi che hanno devastato la Grecia ed in particolare Atene. Sono almeno 82 morti i morti e oltre 170 i feriti che si contano nella settimana che ha spazzato il paese. Ora, una notizia che sembra un segno di speranza: il cane che è rimasto solo perché seguiva la folla che si tuffava in acqua, fortunatamente ha ritrovato la sua famiglia.

Gli amanti degli animali e le organizzazioni di soccorso, si sono mobilitati per trovare i proprietari del cane e venerdì si è riunito con loro. Con il passare dei giorni, la famiglia non avrebbe creduto di poter ritrovare il proprio amato cane. Troppi animali si sono persi o sono rimasti imprigionati dalle fiamme nei due giorni dell’incendio ma la speranza come si dice, è sempre l’ultima a morire. 

L’associazione Street Dogs nel gruppo Volos-Grecia, che si occupa di cani randagi, ha confermato che il cane è una femmina, si chiama Lua e che è tornata sana e salva con i suoi proprietari. “È stata trovata dal suo popolo! Il suo nome è Lua! Non l’hanno lasciata morire. L’adorano! Semplicemente l’hanno persa nel caos,”- hanno detto.

Un amico della famiglia ha riferito ai media locali che Lua è scappata dopo aver avuto paura durante l’incendio e si era dimenata divincolandosi dal guinzaglio che aveva al collo. La cucciola di solo un anno terrorizzata dal fuoco, corse a perdifiato verso il mare dove nuotò verso la roccia lasciando il fuoco da una distanza di sicurezza mentre il resort bruciava quasi fino a terra.

Fu lì che venne vista dal fotografo che catturò l’immagine che poi la rese famosa in tutto il mondo.I proprietari di Lua la stavano cercando da ore, prima di apprendere dai social media che era sopravvissuta al fuoco e che giaceva sulla roccia della spiaggia di Kokkino Limanaki.

Si sono riuniti con il loro animale domestico e insieme si sono imbarcati su una barca che aiutava ad evacuare le persone bloccate da un incendio nel vicino porto di Rafina. Da allora la famiglia è tornata nella loro casa di Atene. Lua era originariamente una cagnolina randagia, ma è stata accolta dalla famiglia che ha una casa estiva a Mati.
